SHEET LIGHT VERSION

ORLANDO - New Paradigm Opera 

 

General
ORLANDO (light version) is an opera of a new kind, a performative installation made of ten videos projected successively on one screen, 
a sound artist installed among the audience, in dialogue with the projections.

ORLANDO (light version) can be presented indoors or outdoors.  

 

Versions of the performance
ORLANDO (light version) can be shared with audiences in two ways :

- As a audio-video installation without live performance (24/24h if the set device is placed in a dark space or during night time if the set device is placed in a bright space or outdoors)

- As a performative installation (30min) during which a guest-musician or sound artist plays live and performs facing the screen, together with the audience.

Workshops and Talks
Each presentation of ORLANDO (light version) is preceded by a one- to three-day workshop and followed by a conversation (30 to 60min) between the artists and the audience. Guest-researchers, philosophers, speakers, thinkers, activists are invited to participate to the after-talks related to individual and collective post-binary evolutions.

General Information

Indoors / Outdoors setting


Indoors version
24/24h if the set device is placed in a dark space or during night time if the set device is placed in a bright space. 

 

Outdoors version
Before sunrise or after sunset. The environnement should be as quiet and dark as possible. Prefer locations far from roads, airports, lampposts and other light sources. ORLANDO cannot be installed or performed in conditions of wind or rain. 

Space 

Plane ground surface, empty space, no chairs, no elevated stage.

Favor dry spaces and shielded from the wind.

Avoid dusty and muddy places.

If the floor is not clean, warm and dry, the organiser is asked to provide carpets or pillows for the audience.

A few chairs can be spread in the space, for disabled members of the audience.

Dimensions 

Ideal size of the room for the workshop: 10x10m

Projection area (white wall or white screen) for the installation: 385x260cm

60 to 90min (including intro and after talk)

The audience members is free to move and change points of view during the performance. 

Audience members generally sit and lie down on the floor in front of the screen.

If the floor is not clean, warm and dry, the organiser is asked to provide carpets or pillows for the audience.

Chairs can be spread in the space for disabled members of the audience.

Security
 

Material should be secured 24/24h in an indoor or outdoor version.  

Responsibility of the company
 

ORLANDO travels with 2 members of Cie BadNewsFromTheStars*: 1 artistic director, 1 media artist
The sound artist should be local.

 

Cie BadNewsFromTheStars* travels with

 

- Ipad

- Video files (USB or SD card or MacbookPro)

Responsibility of the host
 

The host provides minimum 1 technician for set up and strike (for a 1/2 day set up and a 1 hour strike) and 1 sound engineer for sound check.

 

Material provided by the host:

 

- 1 video projector (see details below)

- 1 HDMI cable (between 1.5m and 5m)

- 1 screen (ideally for an image of 2.5m x 3.75m) (see details below)

- Secured venue or outdoor space 

- A secured storage space next to the venue for video and audio material in case of rain (if outdoors)

- 2 to 4 speakers 

- 1x Mixing Console 

- XLR cable

- Electric source

- Electric cables 

- 1 adapters SHUKO (European standard) > local plugs

- Tape or cable covers for cables on the floor

- Cushions and chairs for audience members

- Cushion and low table if needed by the guest-musician or sound artist​​​

Projector and projection screen details (provided by the host):

Indication for the choice of the projector:

- Brightness: ideally 5000 ANSI Lumens

- Resolution: 1080p: 1920 x 1080

- Ratio: ideally a short focal length that allows you to get a large image while being close to the projection surface.

- Image Size: Ideally an image of 2.5m x 3.75m can be projected 

- Aspect Ratio: the images are mounted in 3/2 format

 

Concerning the projection screen, we can make the projection on a white wall (video projector placed on the floor in front of the wall, public side) or on a large projection screen (retro/face) with ideally the video projector placed at the back of the screen.

Set up and Strike

Technical staff 
 

ORLANDO (light version) travels with 2 people from BadNewsFromTheStars*. They participate to set up and strike.

The festival provides minimum 1 technician for set up and strike (for a 1/2 day set up and a 1 hour strike)

Electricity

Power supply

The organiser provides a power supply 25A monophase 220V distribued as follow :

- 1 plugs 220V/16A for video

- 1 plug 220V/10A for sound installation

 

Electric distribution
 

The organiser provides :

- all the electric cables to distribute a point of food to the beamer 

- all the electric cables to feed the sound system 

- 1 power stripe with 6 connections

- If necessary provide 2 adapters SHUKO (European standard) > local plugs

Video

About the system
 

Horace is in charge of launching and stopping the projections.  

Material travelling with the company
 

- Video files (USB or SD card or MacbookPro)

Material provided by the host/organizer

- 1x video projector

- 1x HDMI cable (between 1.5m and 5m)

- 1x screen or white wall (ideally for an image of 2.5m x 3.75m) 

- 1x electric cables to connect video projector

- 1x power stripe with 6 connections

- 1x adapters SHUKO (European standard) > local plugs

Sound

About the sound system
 

During the installation phase, an Ipad plugged to the mixing table is placed on the floor, in the center of the set device. Sound is diffused.

During the performance phase, a live musician is playing in front of the screen, in immersion with the audience. He/she uses his/her own instrument and specific material, sometimes plugged to a mixing table. 

 

2 to 4 speakers are needed for ORLANDO. They should be provided by the venue/festival. It should be compatible with the mixing table.
