ORLANDO - New Paradigm Opera

ORLANDO is an opera of a new kind, a performative installation made of seven videos projected on screens fixed on a heptagonal wooden structure.

ORLANDO can be presented indoors or outdoors.

ORLANDO can be shared with audiences in two ways :

- As a audio-video installation without live performance (24/24h if the set device is placed in a dark space or during night time if the set device is placed in a bright space or outdoors)

- As a performative installation (50min) during which a guest-musician or sound artist plays live and performs inside the set device, in immersion together with the audience. Each presentation of ORLANDO is preceded by a short introduction (5min) by Julie Beauvais and followed by a discussion (30 to 60min) between the artists and the audience. Guest-researchers, philosophers, speakers, thinkers, activists are invited to participate to the after-talks related to individual and collective post-binary evolutions.

Set Device

About the set device

The set device is made of a heptagonal wooden structure (ø :13,5m) within which the audience can enter by 7 doors arranged between the screens.

The 7 screens of 3,85m x 2,6m are made of white PVC. They are fixed on the structure with white ropes.

The structure is ballasted by concrete blocks specifically done and disposed at the 7 access doors. A tight cable on all the upper structure’s perimeter allows to stiffen the whole installation. Beamers and media-players are placed in front of each screen (3,5m away).

If the set device cannot be transported by truck from the previous venue, it has to be rebuild locally.

Pre-set up in carpentry workshop

Rebuilding the elements of the set:

- Pre-assemble time : 10 days, 3 people (depending on the available tools and the know-how)

- Carpentry workshop

- Wood : 600 linear meters, batten 6x3cm

- Hadware : detailed list in the assembly plan

- Concrete ballasts : build minimum 5 shapes for concrete pouring, detail in the assembly plan.
7 ballasts for indoors version (7x33kg)
21 ballasts for outdoors version (21x33kg)
